The Designers
PIET HEIN (1905-1996) A rational idealist, Piet Hein was neither an architect nor a furniture designer, rather he was a philosopher, poet and mathematician. He created the 'superellipse' as a new oval shape for the creation of Sergels Torg roundabout in Stockholm. In cooperation with the Swedish designer Bruno Mathsson, Hein used the shape to make the SuperellipseTM table series. Fritz Hansen put the innovative table into production in 1968.
BRUNO MATHSSON (1907-1988) Bruno Mathsson was an internationally renowned Swedish designer and architect. He was an advocate for simplicity and elegance, making innovative furniture that blended technology and design, often using laminated wood.
