fritz hansen 150th annversary egg chair

Fritz Hansen Collector's Egg Chair

Fritz Hansen has released a limited production of 150 Egg chairs in a never-before-seen edition featuring a combination of rich Forest Green leather with a warm complementing copper tone base. These special collector’s items marked the closing of Fritz Hansen's 150th anniversary year. Each of the 150 chairs has an engraved metal plaque featuring its unique edition number, securing its place as a rare and singular collectable.

Innes are very proud to be the sole UK partner chosen to sell the 2 chairs allocated to the UK. This is a chance to buy a very, very special version of this iconic chair.

The Egg™ chair is a masterpiece of Danish design from 1958. It emerged from a collaboration between Fritz Hansen and Arne Jacobsen, using a radically new material, polyurethane foam, introduced to Jacobsen by Fritz Hansen. With new freedom unrestrained by traditional chair building materials, Jacobsen found the perfect shape for the chair by experimenting with wire and plaster in his garage. The Egg™ chair was designed for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen by Arne Jacobsen, who was the hotel’s architect and designed many pieces of furniture specifically for the hotel.

To this day, skilled craftspeople at Fritz Hansen manufacture the chair using the same combination of industrial production together with leather stretching and stitching by hand.

The Collector’s Edition Egg™ chairs feature soft-to-the-touch Pure leather in deep Forest Green paired with the warm copper tones of the star-shaped base.

Pure leather has a visible textured surface particular to each piece. Over time, the natural beauty of the leather will develop as the unique patina emerges. The PVD copper-coloured base created exclusively for the Collector’s Edition Egg™ chair.

The 150 editions are available worldwide and only 2 in the UK.

We have chairs numbered 021 and 007 (for any James Bond fans!).
