The Aluminium Chairs EA 131 and EA 132 are equipped with an adjustable tilt mechanism and an upright seat adapted to desk work. Due to the absence of castors, they do not have the appearance of task chairs and their relaxed inviting look makes a perfect addition to any home office. The two models vary only in their width: EA 132 is slightly narrower than EA 131.

Backrest and seat: EA131, medium-height backrest, desk-oriented sitting. High-frequency welded horizontal ribbing in fabric or leather. Side profiles and spreaders in die-cast aluminium, with a polished or chrome-plated finish or powder-coated in deep black.

Seat mechanism: Adjustable backward tilt, lockable in the forward position. Continuous seat height adjustment with gas spring

Armrests: Die-cast aluminium, with a polished or chrome-plated finish or powder-coated in deep black.

Base: four-star base in die-cast aluminium, with a polished or chrome-plated finish or powder-coated in deep black. Fitted with plastic glides for carpet or felt glides for hard floors.

Charles & Ray Eames

Often referred to as a twentieth-century interpretation of the nineteenth-century English club chair, this seating instantly became a symbol of comfort. Eames Aluminium Chairs are not just a classic design, but as an entire design concept for industrial manufacturing with elements of hand craftsmanship

The Story

The point of departure to find a suitable solution for outdoor chairs in the development of the Eames Aluminium Group is an essential aspect of its design: since the chairs were intended for both indoor and outdoor use, the Eames searched for suitable materials. This led them to aluminium, which is not only water-resistant but also lightweight and capable of being cast into free-form sculptural shapes. Exploiting these advantages, they came up with an ingenious structural idea: a textile membrane stretched tautly between two elegantly curved aluminium side members to form a sling-style seat.

Aluminium is an extremely durable material that can be completely recycled at the end of its useful life. Recycled aluminium requires 94% less energy to produce than primary aluminium, which is why Vitra relies almost exclusively on recycled aluminium.
